ENUGU, NIGERIA — In a major leap towards mechanized farming and sustainable agricultural innovation, Donac Adon Agro Estate, in partnership with TCG Farms and NortraTractor, successfully concluded an intensive tractor operations and maintenance training program at the NortraTractor headquarters in Enugu. This landmark event not only represents a bold step in agro-industrial collaboration but also sets the stage for empowering the next generation of farm managers and operators in South-East Nigeria.
The training, which spanned several days, brought together a vibrant team of young agricultural enthusiasts, engineers, and field operators under the guidance of seasoned mechanics and NortraTractor experts. The sessions were hands-on, practical, and tailored to the unique terrains and needs of Donac Adon Agro Estate projects — including the fast-developing Abu Geze Farm Estate.
Strategic Collaboration with NortraTractor
NortraTractor, a Denmark-rooted agricultural machinery firm with its Nigerian base in Enugu, provided the technical backbone for the program. The company’s state-of-the-art tractors and mechanization solutions have already begun transforming how agriculture is approached in Eastern Nigeria. With a dedicated showroom and service hub in Enugu, NortraTractor is building a long-term partnership with Donac Adon to create a new cadre of competent tractor operators and maintenance personnel.
The highlight of this collaboration is the joint vision to establish a tractor driving and repair school that will cater to unemployed and underemployed youths in the region. This training school will not only provide employable skills but will also feed directly into Donac’s operational workforce.
- Hands-on Learning: Beyond the Classroom
The training modules covered: - Tractor operations and safety protocols
- Hydraulic and engine diagnostics
- Plough and harrow calibration
- Field navigation and control systems
- Routine servicing and troubleshooting
Trainees were shown not just how to operate the machines, but how to diagnose and fix minor mechanical faults, ensuring longevity of the equipment and reducing downtime on the farm.
The program saw the participation of Donac Adon’s field personnel, selected youth from nearby communities, and technical team leads responsible for scaling mechanization across Donac’s multiple farm estates in Anambra and Enugu States. Each participant gained hands-on experience, from starting a tractor to inspecting gearboxes and configuring implements for specific soil and crop types.
Empowering Local Communities
At the heart of Donac Adon’s mission is a drive to create meaningful employment, develop communities, and reposition agriculture as a desirable and profitable career path for the youth. According to Mr. Gideon Tagbugbo, Operations Head of TCG Farms and the primary overseer of Donac projects:
“This training is not just about tractors. It is about building skills, building people, and building the future of agriculture in our homeland. We are proud to say that these young men are now trained, not just to operate, but to troubleshoot and maintain high-value equipment — a core pillar of our mechanized farming strategy.”
Local leaders and stakeholders commended the initiative, highlighting its alignment with regional goals for youth empowerment and sustainable development.
Next Steps: Building on Momentum
The successful completion of the NortraTractor training paves the way for several follow-up initiatives:
Deployment of Trained Operators: Trained personnel are being posted to various Donac projects, including the 100-hectare Woburn Cassava Project in Enugu, where land clearing and stem planting are underway.
Community Training Hubs: Plans are in motion to set up mobile training units and fixed learning centers where periodic workshops will be held for aspiring agricultural engineers and machine operators.
Service Centre Setup: In partnership with NortraTractor, a regional service hub will be established to serve not just Donac’s needs, but also those of nearby farms, boosting agricultural efficiency across South-East Nigeria.
Digital Integration: The upcoming Donac Agro-Tech mobile app (under development by Schwiz Web) will include modules on tractor operation, video tutorials, and booking of operator services. This reinforces Donac’s push for precision farming supported by technology.
